Everyday questions to ask before choosing an exoskeleton

Start with what you want to do, what you can already do, and how a device would fit into your day.

Start with your day

Think about one thing you want to make easier: a longer walk, stairs, a trip, or keeping up with someone. If you are researching for a family member, ask what they want to do and whether they would want to wear a device.

Check the requirements

Read the requirements for the exact model. Check walking, standing, balance, fit, and any need for help putting it on. Keep those requirements separate from a reviewer's personal experience.

Ask about the whole route

Going uphill and coming back down are different questions. So are stairs up, stairs down, and uneven ground. Look for an answer about the part of your route that matters to you.

Read the battery conditions

Check whether a range claim uses one battery or includes a spare. Look for the assistance setting, terrain, and test conditions. Ask how charging works, whether you can swap the battery, and what the manual says to do if power runs out.

Try your normal routine

At a demo, try putting it on, taking it off, sitting, and using your usual clothing or bag. Ask what the demo allows before trying stairs or other terrain. A few minutes at a booth cannot answer every question about a full day.

Check the full cost and support

Confirm the price in your country, what comes in the box, and whether you need extra batteries, a charger, shoes, or other parts. Read the return window and trial rules. Ask where repairs happen, who pays for shipping, and how replacement parts are supplied.

Know whose experience you are reading

A brief try-on, a field review, and a long-term owner's account each answer different questions. Check the model, date, setting, and any sponsorship or supplied-device disclosure. CAPABL labels its own hands-on findings separately.

Write down what is still unanswered

Before you buy, ask the manufacturer about anything you still need to know: whether you can try the device nearby, how returns work, or what support is available after purchase.
